About the Role This position reports to the Senior Vice President - Operations and is the business owner of any health, safety, and environmental (HSE) applications. The main purpose of the role is to manage and direct the company’s HSE operational policies in an effective and cost efficient manner with due regard for quality and productivity, over its entire portfolio of terminals. In addition, support training activities, including but not limited to: on-the-job training, classroom training, electronic training, distance learning, simulators, conferences and workshops as well as provide support for global implementation and maintenance of ISO14001 (Environmental) and OHSAS18001 (Safety) management. Key accountabilities will include: - Train and advise business units regarding safety and environmental protocols and procedures to ensure compliance with local, DPW, OSHAS and ISO standards.
- Assist in developing and recommending training and development policies and practices to ensure uniform and continued compliance with relevant legislation.
- Monitoring, inspecting and assessing of all business units facilities for compliance with general and specific safety and environmental standards.
- Maintain own, and review staff qualifications routinely to ensure they are current and up to date
- Evaluate and measure effectiveness of policies
- Assist and take initiative to reverse negative developments within the terminals in relation to productivity and unit cost.
- Setting of HSE targets and goals and analysing of relevant KPI’s
Experience and Qualifications In order to give credible support to the organisation and be successful in this role, the ideal candidate will have the following experience, skills and qualifications: |

- A minimum of 7 years experience with container terminal management.
- Degree in Occupational Health & Safety or related qualifications is preferred.
- An ability to proactively keep abreast of current relevant legislation and regulations changes; maintains knowledge of current and emerging issues and trends.
- Maintains records, include locations and inspections/audits
- Ability to analyse processes and make recommendations for improvement
- Computer literate and knowledge of relevant software applications
