Qtel provides range of telecommunications products including national, international, mobile GSM, Internet and Cable television services.

As the result of continuing organisational growth and extended service, we now seek Mobile Portal Quality & Test Specialist.

Purpose:

To be the functional test and quality control responsible the portal as well as to manage the device certification.

Furthermore the role includes technical support when rolling out new services.

The Qtel wireless portal includes several platforms within and outside of Qtel and offers the following services:

  • Multimedia downloadable content
  • Streaming on demand
  • Live streaming
  • Alerts and subscription services
  • Special content for events e.g. Asian Games
  • Live Camera’s
  • Etc.

Context:

This position will be in Wireless Networks engineering, whose task is quality assurance and testing of portal products before roll-out to Qtel customers. The role holder will be the main contact point also for ensuring the compatibility of mobile devices with the portal as well as coordinating these tasks with the portal vendors.


Accountabilities:

Your job profile will include, but not be limited to, the following:

Overview

Holder will be part of the product development life-cycle of the Qtel wireless portals and applications and will participate as follows:

  • set up test policy to ensure a high quality standard of products before launch
  • develop, oversee and participate in the technical and functional testing of applications for the Qtel wireless portal
  • Coordinate the testing and approval of mobile devices for the portal
  • Interface with device vendors to plan roll-out of approved devices and communicate this internally
  • Holder will liaise with portal product managers and portal team for any testing requirements
  • Analyse and ensure the security and integrity of the systems of the mobile portal
  • Holder will develop quality standards policy for multi media applications
  • Holder will develop user style guidelines for portal products

Costs & Profitability

  • Responsible for attaining the highest possible quality of the Qtel wireless portal
  • Responsible for testing and approving new applications and products on the portal
  • Responsible for ensuring highest rate of compatibility of user devices

Customers

  • Will interface and cooperate with product managers for roll-out of products
  • Will interface with device vendors and vendors

Business orientation

  • The portal is a Qtel wireless mass market product and will have very high visibility, the incumbent will ensure the high quality of the customer experience
  • To help keep the portal a state of the art product with the best possible service to our customers.

Planning & Organising

  • To plan, coordinate and implement acceptance tests of new products and services
  • Be responsible for device management

Problem Solving

The role holder will be primary responsible for ensuring that the portal attains and maintains a high level of quality and therefore will be involved in all product roll-outs for the wireless portal projects.

Communicating, negotiating & influencing

The incumbent will enforce the quality policy for roll-out of products being launched and will oversee their implementation. Will develop presentations and documentation of the policy and will maintain these documents. To communicate efficiently the compatibility of devices with the mobile portal.

Ability to make decisions whether a product is of sufficient quality to be launched.

Business impact of role

The holder will be the main quality gateway to ensure Qtel only launched products of the highest possible quality and maintain that standard for all mobile portal applications.

Preferred Background:

Minimum Experience & Essential Knowledge

  • 8 Years in the Telecommunication field, 3 years of which shall be in Mobile networks in testing and quality assurance.

Minimum Entry Qualifications

  • BS Telecom Engineering or other relevant eng'g fields.
Skills:

Technical & non technical

  • Excellent knowledge of Quality assurance and functional testing
  • Excellent knowledge of usability testing
  • Good understanding of mobile devices and their capabilities
  • Excellent understanding of multi media mobile portals
  • Good knowledge on authentication and security issues within portal environments
  • Good knowledge of Billing of mobile application
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to provide concise reports
  • Excellent Communication skills.
